What to Expect
A Welcoming, Beginner‑Friendly Environment
Whether you’re holding your first camera or adding new tools to your creative kit, you’ll be met with patience, clarity, and hands‑on guidance. Phodeobug Photography workshops are built for all experience levels—no jargon walls, no pressure, just learning at your pace.
Small Groups, Big Learning
Workshops are intentionally kept small so you get personal attention, real feedback, and space to ask every question that comes to mind. You won’t be lost in a crowd—you’ll be part of a creative circle.
A Mojave‑Rooted Experience
Expect wide horizons, textured landscapes, and the quiet magic that settles over the desert as the light shifts. We’ll explore locations chosen for their beauty, accessibility, and photographic potential—from golden-hour ridgelines to night skies that feel ancient and alive.
Hands-On Instruction
You’ll learn by doing. We’ll cover:
- Composition and visual storytelling
- Exposure settings and camera confidence
- Working with natural light and shadow
- Night-sky techniques (for applicable workshops)
- How to adapt to changing conditions with ease
- Expect to walk, explore, experiment, and create.
A Flexible, Weather-Aware Itinerary
Desert weather can be dramatic. We embrace the elements when it’s safe and adjust when needed. You’ll always know the plan, the backup plan, and the “if the sky surprises us” plan.
What You’ll Need
A detailed gear and clothing checklist will be provided, but in general:
- Any camera (DSLR, mirrorless, or smartphone)
- Charged batteries + memory cards
- Comfortable shoes and layered clothing
- Water, snacks, and sun protection
- A sense of curiosity and adventure
A Supportive, Creative Atmosphere
Expect encouragement, not critique. Expect clarity, not confusion. Expect to leave with new skills, new images you’re proud of, and a deeper connection to the landscapes you photograph.

Workshops
Starts @ $50 per person
I offer multiple workshops throughout the year. Workshops for beginners are popular among people either just starting in photography or just curious. Some workshops will be in a classroom environment with a presentation and shooting practice with test subjects. Other workshops will in a dedicated outdoor location.
Each workshop that is on the schedule will state indoor or outdoor and location. Be sure to check the information for each workshop for locations, length and times.
The photographer will teach camera settings, compositions and more for each workshop and participants will conduct multiple practice shoots. Participants can share their photos with the group for critique and learn ways to improve.
